J Balvin - Rayo - Capitol Records
J Balvin is preparing to release his highly anticipated sixth studio album, "Rayo". This record will feature 15 tracks with a diverse array of renowned artists from different genres, including Chencho Corleone, Luar la L, Feid, Saiko, Bad Gyal, Zion, Dei V, Ryan Castro, Blessd, Carín León, Yovngchimi, Quevedo, and Omar Courtz. The album marks J Balvin's return to streaming and the stage, reconnecting with his musical roots while introducing new elements in each track for his hardcore fans to enjoy at the end of the summer.
"Rayo" includes classic reggaeton sounds with J Balvin's unmistakable voice, but it also blends other genres, featuring powerful afrobeats, house/electro rhythms, as well as Latin trap and pop ballads that showcase Balvin's versatility.
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Moanin' - Blue Note Records
More than any other album in the canon of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, 1958’s Moanin’—featuring the great drummer with trumpeter Lee Morgan, tenor saxophonist Benny Golson, pianist Bobby Timmons, and bassist Jymie Merritt—was the perfect crystallization of the band’s bluesy, soulful sound, and it still stands today as perhaps the most quintessential hard bop recording of all-time. Originally self-titled, the album was later renamed Moanin’ due to the popularity of Timmons’ unforgettable opening track. The album also introduced several indelible Golson compositions that would become standards of the jazz songbook including “Along Came Betty” and “Blues March.”
Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil - Blue Note Records
1964 was one of the most momentous years in the musical life of Wayne Shorter. Early in the year the saxophonist was still a member of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, appearing on classic Blue Note albums like Free for All and Indestructible. Shorter made his own auspicious label debut that spring with Night Dreamer and quickly recorded the impressive follow-up JuJu. That summer he joined the Miles Davis Quintet, cementing a line-up that would become one of the seminal bands in jazz history. And when Shorter entered Van Gelder Studio with Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Elvin Jones on Christmas Eve 1964 they created a masterpiece with Speak No Evil, a transcendent set of six Shorter originals including the swinging title track, “Witch Hunt,” and sublime ballad “Infant Eyes.”

Finding love after grief, the outsized guitar pop of Quivers gleams like the surface of an ocean, beneath which lies a reef that is at turns beautiful and painful, its features alien and sharp enough to wound. Propelled by melodies that at times recall Galaxie 500 and The Pretenders, Oyster Cuts is sunshine pop with blood in the water.
Analysis Paralysis is ominous, metal-meets-industrial, combustible hardcore rhythms with ‘90s alt-rock melodic bliss, rough-around-the-edges reggae, and vibe-heavy synths and thunderous breakdowns. It’s an album that expands Four Year Strong’s classic sound in exciting ways – but through it all, unmistakably them.
Rayo includes the classic reggaeton sounds with J Balvin's unmistakable voice, but also blends other genres, from powerful afrobeats, house/electro rhythms, to Latin trap and pop ballads. Featuring Chencho Corleone, Luar la L, Feid, Saiko, Bad Gyal, Zion, Dei V, Ryan Castro, Blessd, Carín León, Yovngchimi, Quevedo, and Omar Courtz.
After explorations of contemporary soul, R&amo;B and alt-pop on previous albums, Nicole Zefanya has found her groove in laidback guitar-driven pop, calling back to the greats like Joni Mitchell and Liz Phair. Her new direction not only speaks to her evolution as an artist, but also to her own personal growth and post-breakup glowup.
On his eleventh album, singer-songwriter Lee continues to expand his sonic range while sharpening his closely observed lyrics that squarely address death, aging, and love. The force behind such acclaimed albums as Mission Bell and Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song, Lee has been known for his association with a long list of collaborators and touring partners, from Paul Simon to Zac Brown Band.

In The Lonely Hour - (10th Anniversary Edition) - Capitol Records
GRAMMY, BRIT, Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning artist Sam Smith marks a decade of their multi-platinum debut, In the Lonely Hour. Released in 2014, In the Lonely Hour was the first of many incredible milestones and successes that Sam would achieve over the course of their standout career. The GRAMMY Award-winning, now 6x RIAA platinum-certified album became the biggest selling debut album of the decade, leading to Sam being awarded a Guinness World Record for holding the most number of consecutive weeks in the UK Top 10 Album Chart in the 2010s. The 10-track project includes UK Number 1’s “Money On My Mind” and “Stay With Me,” which saw Sam’s debut in the Billboard Hot 100. Other hits on the album are “I’m Not The Only One,” “Like I Can” and “Lay Me Down.”
Bobby Hutcherson - Medina (Blue Note Tone Poet Series) - Blue Note Records
The late-1960s and early-1970s were a wildly creative period for Bobby Hutcherson with the vibraphonist freely exploring a wide range of stylistic possibilities from post-bop and the avant-garde to fusion and Latin Jazz. The cutting-edge 1969 session Medina—which wouldn’t be first released until 1980 as part of the LT Series—documented one of Hutcherson’s most remarkable band line-ups featuring two of his frequent collaborators—Harold Land on tenor saxophone and flute and Joe Chambers on drums—along with Stanley Cowell on piano and Reggie Johnson on bass. The set presented a pair of original compositions each by Hutcherson, Cowell, and Chambers that explored a variety of moods from the churning rhythms of “Avis” and “Medina” to the more atmospheric realms of “Comes Spring” and “Orientale.”
Lee Morgan - Taru (Blue Note Tone Poet Series) - Blue Note Records
Lee Morgan’s 1968 album Taru—which wouldn’t be first released until 1980 as part of the LT Series—found the trumpeter at a crossroads exploring a variety of styles. The band on this outstanding date is notable for several reasons including the elevating presence of guitarist George Benson who delivers inspired solos throughout. The session also marked Morgan’s first recorded collaboration with tenor saxophonist Bennie Maupin who would play an integral role on future Morgan albums including Caramba! and Live at the Lighthouse. Rounding out the sextet were pianist John Hicks, bassist Reggie Workman, and the ever-inspiriting drummer Billy Higgins. The six-song set covered a range of stylistic ground including modal jazz (“Avotcja One”), hard-charging post-bop (“Get Yourself Together”), beautiful balladry (“Haeschen” and “Taru, What’s Wrong With You?”), gospel-tinged numbers (“Dee Lawd”), and funky boogaloos (“Durem”).

Grim Iconic weds scouring electronics to hooky songs and Gallego's powerful drumming in a way that feels visceral and new. It’s playful and intent, driven and combustible, total fucking chaos mixed into glints of broken-glass beauty. it'll leave you breathless, exhausted, and wanting to repeat it all over again. As any good mantra should.
With their debut LP The Future Is Our Way Out the Chicago-based 5 piece share a body of work that spans genres and eras, merging the lavish romanticism of mid-century pop with the frenetic energy and spiky intensity of early-millennium indie, all centered on singer Wes Leavins’ hypnotically crooning vocal work.
