FENIAN [Red and Black Tri Color]
$31.98  31.98
chart cover
KNEECAP return to bend genre, language, and rules. The most talked about artists in the world are turning the page. A new chapter, new sounds, new manifestos. A blistering album that revels in darkness while bursting through the void with illuminated revery. This is FENIAN. Produced by Dan Carey (Fontaines D.C., Kae Tempest, Wet Leg), FENIAN upends expectations with an expansive sonic palate, traversing acid house, trip-hop, dubstep, and more - Masters of rave and rap theatre, FENIAN represents Kneecap’s most sophisticated exploration of language and sounds. More darkness. More confrontation. More craic. More energy. More solidarity. More absolute bangers. And more fuel for the unrelenting engine that powers this unstoppable force. For their remarkable second album, KNEECAP have come out fighting. Throughout, the sirens and alarms ring, and the chorus’s blast. Revolutionary and rebellious, confrontational and impossibly catchy, inescapably intelligent and brilliantly rendered, FENIAN doesn’t just represent the next phase in KNEECAP’s trajectory but stands as a remarkable record that thrills as much as it surprises. The mayhem of their breakout year is a memory now. But KNEECAP are neither dwelling on that nor merely persevering through it. In FENIAN they excel, reaching a new peak that is undeniable in its mastery. Pressure makes diamonds, and FENIAN glistens with KNEECAP’s uncut gems.

The Head and the Heart is the self-titled debut album from Seattle folk-rock band The Head and the Heart, originally self-released in 2010 before being picked up and re-issued by Sub Pop in 2011. Built around harmonious vocals, piano, violin, and folk-rock instrumentation, the album captures themes of connection, wanderlust, and introspection across tracks like “Lost in My Mind,” “Down in the Valley,” and “Rivers and Roads.” Over time the debut was certified Gold by the RIAA, reflecting more than 500,000 units sold — a notable achievement for a band that began as a local favorite. The success of the debut launched The Head and the Heart into extensive touring and larger festival stages, laying the foundation for their subsequent albums and a dedicated fanbase.

Peaches! [Indie Exclusive Bone]
$29.98  29.98
chart cover
The Black Keys Peaches! is the Akron duo’s fourteenth studio album (their sixth since 2019), a visceral and raw 10-song collection described by singer Dan Auerbach as the band’s “most natural record” since their 2002 debut, The Big Come Up. In similar DIY spirit, the album was recorded with all musicians playing in same room with few overdubs, as is the first record mixed entirely by the band themselves since 2006’s Magic Potion. The songs chosen reflect Auerbach and bandmate Patrick Carney’s obsessive record-collecting habit, which in recent years has escalated into an ongoing series of Record Hang DJ-set dance parties where they spin vintage 45s for packed, high-energy dancefloors in the coolest spots across the globe. The cover art for Peaches! is based around an iconic image from Memphis-born photographer, William Eggleston, and marks the return of Patrick’s brother, Michael Carney, overseeing the art direction.

Theft World [Silver Metallic]
$23.98  23.98
chart cover

Lip Critic’s 2024 Partisan debut Hex Dealer was one of the most-hyped experimental releases of that year (“Like the B-52s on ketamine” -Paste) and signaled the Brooklyn band’s arrival as a borderline-batshit creative force. Theft World is their next chapter, built again from the chaos of two drummers locked in psychic combat, a sampler that sounds like it was struck by lightning, and frontman Bret Kaser’s paranoid preacher energy. But where Hex Dealer leapt from one absurdist vignette to the next, Theft World plays like a fully locked-in transmission. Themes orbit around the concept of theft, not just as a political force or digital dilemma, but as a surreal, emotional constant. Club rhythms and hardcore breakdowns pull as much from Tyler the Creator’s ‘Igor’ and Korn as they do Skrillex and Soul Coughing, coming together to soundtrack a world that’s constantly being striped apart and resold.

American Football - LP4 [Indie Exclusive Goldenrod Mix]
$36.98  36.98
chart cover
When the idea of recording a 4th album came up (for the second time), American Football knew things were going to get darker. After touring a year's worth of sold-out 25th Anniversary shows around the world and releasing a covers album (featuring Iron & Wine, Ethel Cain, Blondshell & more), the quartet of Mike & Nate Kinsella, Steve Lamos, and Steve Holmes, linked up with producer / engineer Sonny Diperri (My Bloody Valentine, M83, Kurt Vile) to record what would become their most substantial record to date. Blending atmospheric textures with emotive, post-rock style catharsis, LP4 is unlike anything American Football have recorded thus far, yet it fits right in with their evolving and beautiful catalog. Recorded during a 10-day retreat at Panoramic House in Stinson Beach, CA, LP4 finds the band intentionally walking into the abyss - themes of divorce, upheaval, and uncertainty are at the forefront, yet the band sounds more engaged and legitimized than ever before. Opening track, "Man Overboard," showcases each member's strengths - the un-matched style and jazz swing of Lamos' drumming, the lyrical vulnerability and multi-instrumental mastery of both Kinsellas, and Holmes' signature guitar work - all of it swirling together like a shoegaze tornado, the guitars and bass surging into something twisted and warped. Other standouts like "Blood On My Blood" showcase the band's unique use of alternating time signatures while "Bad Moons" (the longest track the band has ever recorded) includes some of Kinsella's most intense lyrics yet. The album also features additional guest vocals from Turnstile's Brendan Yates ("No Feeling"), Wisp ("Wake Her Up"), and Rainer Maria's Caithlin de Marrais ("Blood On My Blood"). LP4 is an ambitious artistic statement from a band who have continued to push the boundaries of genre and culture. It's a gorgeous and elaborate album, one that takes it's time to show you it's beauty, while hinting at the darker parts that are trying their best to stay hidden.

I'm People [Indie Exclusive]
$29.98  29.98
chart cover

Limited edition coloured vinyl, available exclusively through independent retailers,
including a bonus 7” from Hiss Golden Messenger – I’m People. The brand-new
album from Hiss Golden Messenger and the first release with Chrysalis Records.

I’m People is a vivid, deeply human album born from a period of rupture, renewal,
and vast American wandering. Written across Bolinas, the North Carolina Piedmont,
and a Santa Fe motel room, the record traces the artist’s search for clarity through
landscapes both external and internal. These songs move through heartbreak, aging,
fatherhood, desire, disillusionment, and the hard-won hope that remains after the
spirit has been scraped bare. Produced with Josh Kaufman at Dreamland, a
decommissioned church outside Woodstock, the album carries the warmth of
musicians playing live in a circle, stained-glass light filtering across guitars, drums,
and upright bass. Contributions from Bruce Hornsby, Sam Beam, Marcus King, Sara
Watkins, Amy Helm, Eric D. Johnson, and members of Dawes enrich a sound world
that feels immediate, vulnerable, and fully alive.

“I'm People is an intensely human record, and so one that needed to feel immediate,
vulnerable, and fully dancing; something you could touch, sing along to, know about,
recognize, relate with. I know what the record is to me and I bet it's not so dissimilar
from what it's about to you, at least in the broad strokes: The heartbreak and
exhilaration, the absolute black comedy of being a person on this razor's edge that is
America circa 2025. What other choice do we have than to be hopeful?” - MC Taylor
on I’m People.

Hiss Golden Messenger is a Grammy nominated artist based in North Carolina, with
multiple Album Of The Year and Best Americana Album awards, reaching #2 in the
Americana Charts and performances and tours across the world, including the UK
and Europe + performances on US TV; Late Night With Seth Myers.

Singin' to an Empty Chair [Indie Exclusive Brown and Green Marbled]
$33.99  33.99
chart cover

Despite its title, Ratboys’ new album Singin’ to an Empty Chair is not defined by what’s missing. Rather, it’s the beginning of an important dialogue with a close loved one, vocalist Julia Steiner finds herself estranged from. The music on the band’s sixth studio album – its first for New West Records – fills the space that person left behind with 11 songs showcasing Ratboys at the peak of their powers — twangy, effervescent, as confident as they’ve ever been, and perhaps more emotionally interrogative than ever before. The four-piece Chicago band followed up 2023’s highly acclaimed The Window by reconvening with co-producer Chris Walla to begin tracking at a rural Wisconsin cabin before taking the songs to Steve Albini’s famed Electrical Audio studios in Chicago and later to Rosebud Studio in Evanston, Illinois. The results veer from bubbly power-pop on “Anywhere” to irresistible post-country on “Penny in the Lake,” along with heart-piercing ballads like “Just Want You to Know the Truth” and an exhilarating detour into the extraterrestrial on “Light Night Mountains All That,” which Steiner dubs the band’s mammoth “wormhole jam.” Singin’ to an Empty Chair also marks the first Ratboys album written since Steiner began therapy, which the singer/lyricist credits for the clarity found across the album’s unflinching examinations of relationship and self. Fittingly, as the album begins by extending a hand into the void, it concludes with a scene of serenity – all while weaving candid honesty, humor, chaos, and whimsy along the way. “It's not all doom and gloom,” Steiner says. “The experience of making this record definitely gives me hope for whatever happens next.”

It marked the official introduction of legendary keyboardist Bernie Worrell, and would go on to chart at No. 92 on Billboard's Pop chart.

Moth [Indie Exclusive Milky Clear]
$42.98  42.98
chart cover
Triple-Gatefold trans. Milky clear 2LP & LP-Booklet (US version) The Moth is Devin Townsend's most ambitious work to date, a project that has existed in his mind as his life's work - an immersive orchestral, choral, and theatrical project over a decade in the making. What began as a distant vision became reality when Townsend was invited to collaborate with the North Netherlands' Orchestra and Choir. Unlike his previous genre-hopping worlds, The Moth was conceived from the ground up as a fully orchestrated narrative. Townsend spent years relearning musical fundamentals to write the score himself: harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration rebuilt from scratch, expertly assisted by Joseph Stevenson. The result is a meticulously crafted, emotionally driven piece where every instrument and voice has space to speak. Recorded across more than ten countries, the album brings together an extraordinary global cast: the aforementioned North Netherlands Orchestra and Choir, long-time collaborators Darby Todd, Mike Keneally, James Leach, and guests including Steve Vai, Anneke Van Giersbergen & Lynn Wu (Ou). Hundreds of musicians, engineers, mixers and artists contributed to the project's massive creative ecosystem. At it's core, The Moth is about transformation. Through it's soaring arrangements and intimate moments, the work explores self-acceptance, surrender, and the courage to face discomfort without turning away. The Moth is about the journey-but it is also about arrival. The Moth will be available on several formats including Ltd Deluxe 3CD+Blu-ray Artbook that includes the album on CD1, 'The Moth - The Afterlife' on CD2 & 'The Moth - The War (Live)' on CD3. The Blu-ray includes the full 'The Moth - The War' live film, as well as Dolby Atmos & High Resolution Stereo Mixes of the 'The Moth' and 'The Moth - The Afterlife'. It will also be available as Limited 2CD Edition (including 'The Moth-The Afterlife' on CD2), Standard CD Jewelcase and as Gatefold Triple-Gatefold 180g 2LP & Fold-Out LP-booklet, as well as digitally.

Orange County’s SOCIAL DISTORTION returns with its first album in 15 years with Born To Kill. Armed with 11 urgent songs, Mike Ness continues to build on the mystique that SOCIAL DISTORTION is more than just a punk band. Throughout the collection, Ness revisits the sounds of the 1970s, his formative adolescent years. For many, Born To Kill is a return to form, but instead, it’s a continuation of the bar of excellence that SOCIAL DISTORTION and, in turn, Ness has long been praised for. Born To Kill is a body of work that will live long in the SOCIAL DISTORTION catalog. Songs like the rowdy title track that serves as the album’s mission statement, along with the riff-laden “Partners in Crime,” the nostalgic “The Way Things Were,” and rollicking “Tonight” are songs that fit in across any of SOCIAL DISTORTION’s various eras. Now nearly five decades into its career and with a remarkable catalog spanning nearly three generations, SOCIAL DISTORTION has no intention of slowing down any time soon.

Neil Diamond is a legendary artist, songwriter and producer who has to date sold more than 130 million records worldwide, including more than 30 platinum or multi-platinum albums. His risk-taking career has delivered many surprises. Among them is an enormously popular collaboration with iconic producer Rick Rubin that delivered the stunning, stripped-down 12 Songs and the No. 1 album, Home Before Dark. And now from their creative partnership comes a new, never-before-heard album featuring 10 tracks written solely by Neil. Drawn from the Home Before Dark sessions, featuring such musical luminaries as Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench of the Heartbreakers, Wild At Heart is the culmination of the unexpected, deeply felt, Neil Diamond x Rick Rubin trilogy.

Let It Die Here [Desert Glass]
$41.99  41.99
chart cover

Linda Perry’s “Let It Die Here” is a raw, spiritual reckoning, a journey through inherited pain, grief, and redemption. Across seventeen tracks that blend confessional poetry, cinematic rock, and vulnerable introspection, Perry confronts the ghosts of her past — mothers, lovers, and the darker corners of self.

The record moves from the streetlight confessions of “Balboa Park” to the searing surrender of “Let It Die Here,” culminating in “Albatross,” a release from the weight she has carried her whole life. It is an album about release, letting go of guilt, embracing imperfection, and finding beauty in survival.

Dying Light: Beast - O.S.T. [Colored Vinyl]
$45.98  45.98
chart cover
In Dying Light: The Beast, you step back into Kyle Crane's skin, but he's no longer the man he once was. Years of experiments have left him torn between fragile humanity and a monstrous power that he can barely control. Every light, every shadow, every choice feels dangerous. The forests and ruins of Castor Woods don't just set the stage, they breathe, they watch, and they punish the reckless. This is survival stripped to the bone, where horror is not just outside, but inside you.Olivier Deriviere's powerful and capturing score for Dying Light: The Beast doesn't just accompany Crane's journey, it is his voice. Sometimes it whispers in empty rooms, fragile and broken, sometimes it roars with distorted rhythms and pounding drums when the Beast takes over. Between silence and sound, the music pulls you deeper into Kyle's fractured soul, making every step and every heartbeat part of the story. It's not just a soundtrack, it's the echo of a man losing, and maybe finding, himself.

Isis continued their lengthy songwriting; In the Absence of Truth is Isis' longest record, at almost 65 minutes.Although the band has been defunct for over a decade, their impact on metal is still reverberating, and sales continue to make it one of Ipecac's top artists.

Body & Soul [Remastered]
$60.98  60.98

This duet date from 1990 demonstrates the deep blues feeling and technical mastery Archie Shepp has on the tenor saxophone. Comprised of four standards - 'Things Ain't What They Used to Be,' 'Body and Soul,' 'Pannonica,' and 'Round Midnight' - this set is one of Shepp's most enjoyable ever. The reasons are myriad, but it is in large part due to the fluid, loping bass of Richard Davis. Recorded in a club in front of a live audience, Shepp digs deep into his own history of influential tenor players and comes out not wanting, but on par with them, from Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis to Sonny Rollins to John Coltrane. His playing here is big, meaty, and warm, full of subtle emotions as well as bleating cries. Davis' sense of time and melody is nearly incredible on the title track and on 'Round Midnight.' The interplay Shepp shares with him is tasty, coming from fragmentary elements in Monk's changes; Shepp and Davis move around the lyric and cut to the heart of the tune's color and ambiguity. It's a haunting version and one that offers a completely different reading of the tune over 17 minutes. On 'Pannonica,' Shepp's blues feeling comes out of Ben Webster as well as Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis and his soloing is full of warmth, humor, and a ragged sort of elegance. This - like Shepp's date with Horace Parlan, Goin' Home - is a major addition to the saxophonist's catalog.

Since first bursting onto the scene with her classic Number One hit singles 'Can The Can' and 'Devil Gate Drive', Suzi Quatro has sold over 55 million records worldwide and is recognised as a true rock 'n' roll legend and pioneering icon who never did 'gender'. Across a career spanning more than five decades, Suzi has inspired generations of artists including Debbie Harry, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, KT Tunstall, and many more. She is also renowned for her acclaimed acting career, including theatre and T.V. series, most notably her three-season iconic role as Leather Tuscadero in Happy Days (for which she received more fan mail than The Fonz). Her extraordinary catalogue of hits includes '48 Crash', 'Can The Can', 'Devil Gate Drive', 'Daytona Demon', 'The Wild One', 'If You Can't Give Me Love', 'She's In Love With You', 'Rock Hard', and the US million-seller 'Stumblin' In', her duet with Chris Norman, which became a worldwide million seller again in 2024. In 2019, she began collaborating with her son, Richard Tuckey (producer, co-writer, guitarist) and their creative partnership now reaches it's third chapter with the release of FREEDOM, their third album together. "It's all about getting back to who you are, and it applies universally. We all wear masks to get by in this world. For me it's all about being comfortable in your own skin, having nothing to prove to anyone, and not accepting any BS! This is the journey this album takes you on. Here I am, warts and all. Take it or leave it. Choose yourself... and finally FREEDOM. Which also applies to the world we live in today. A very important word, a very important attitude and very important reality... 'FREEDOM'!" - Suzi Quatro - Along with the single "Freedom', the new album also includes a duet with fellow Detroit native, Alice Cooper, on a rockling duet of the MC5's classic 'Kick Out The Jams'. The album release coincides with Suzi's 2026 tour - at the age of 75, the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll shows absolutely no signs of slowing down - if anything, she is busier, bolder and more driven than ever. Produced by Richard Tuckey, and mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road Studios. Pressed on 140g vinyl, with a printed-inner bag featuring the lyrics and a sleeve note from Suzi.

Left Alone Revisited
$69.98  69.98
chart cover
Mal Waldron's first tribute to Billie Holiday, titled Left Alone, was recorded in 1959, mere months before the singer's death. He returned to salute the legendary vocalist on several occasions since then, with this recording likely being his final tribute, recorded less than a year before his own death. Waldron, who worked with Holiday during her last years, is intimately familiar with her takes of the six standards heard on this disc, along with her own 'Lady Sings the Blues.' Archie Shepp's often gritty tenor sax is reminiscent of the texture of Holiday's voice, yet he perfectly complements Waldron's lush piano. They also pack a punch with their stark performance of 'Left Alone' (Shepp's occasional reed squeaks seem deliberate, as if to imitate breaks in her voice). Waldron also recites Holiday's lyrics set to his composition at the conclusion of the LP. Shepp switches to soprano sax for an emotional take of 'Everything Happens to Me' and 'I Only Have Eyes for You,' with the latter song sounding as if the unheard singer is being ignored by her love interest. Shepp's 'Blues for 52nd Street' is both sassy and swinging. This instrumental salute to Billie Holiday is one of the best albums ever to honour her memory.

He is a founding member of the electro-jazz quintet MUFF, the cult jazzsextet Vertigo and the duo DoMa Ensemble. As composerand arranger he has taken part in dozens of projects and recordings, many of which were released by the label Animal Music. The new album brings a recording of a concert performance featuring the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, which took placeas part of the jazz-symphonic crossover series New Horizons in February 2025 in the DOX+Multifunction Hall in Prague.Composed on a commission from the orchestra, the work formally resembles a suite in three parts. It is performed, however, asa continuous flow of music. In the author's own words, the piece "is an attempt to evoke a story that reflects my own planetaryexperience. The rotating ball in the title is a geoid, the shape of our own planet." Combining composed music with improvisation, the piece bears traces of Barta's original style, known for example from his work for Vertigo or Muff. It is rooted in jazz andcontemporary classical music and unfolds like an elaborate story in which densely composed soundscapes interweave withdelicate melodies and fine-grained instrumentation and whereorder coexists with improvisation and melancholy passagesalternate with psychedelia and humour. The jazz band in the recording features, alongside Marcel Barta himself, tromboniststepan Janousek, keyboardist and synth player Vojtech Prochazka, double bassist Milos Klapsteand drummer Jan Chalupa. Thewhole jazz-symphonic ensemble is conducted by Bastien Stil who has had ample experience leading crossover projects.

Ben Chapman is a road warrior who has spent the previous three years in a whirlwind of activity — writing songs for friends like Hayes Carll, Brent Cobb, and Marcus King; making his Grand Ole Opry debut; and releasing three acclaimed albums of country-fried funky-tonk, but nothing could have prepared him for what 2025 would bring him. His new record 'Feet on Fire' captures that period of wild transition, with songs inspired by Chapman's marriage to fellow songwriter Meg McRee and the arrival of the couple's first child. On songs like the guitar-driven title track, Chapman mixes Pink Floyd atmosphere with Crazy Horse crunch, showcasing the full spread of his musical influences. Elsewhere, he tips his hat to his southern roots with the laidback, loping "Out in the Country" and the Stax-sized soul ballad "Missing You." Produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Anderson East, Feet on Fire captures Ben Chapman as we've never heard him before: his back against the wall and his heart full, determined not only to meet the challenges up ahead, but to write about the process, too.

O is the hugely anticipated debut album from New York City’s white-hot duo, Fcukers. Having quickly built a reputation for their electric live shows and irresistibly catchy hooks, Shanny Wise and Jackson Walker Lewis have gone from playing standing-room only shows at Baby’s All Right to packed out stadiums supporting Tame Impala, Justice, and Dom Dolla and selling out their own 1k+ headline shows in the space of just 2 years! Along the way they’ve played every major festival including Coachella, Glastonbury, Primavera, Lollapalooza and opened for Haim, multiple dates for LCD Soundsystem and gained a long list of including Harry Styles, Charli xcx, David Byrne, Clairo, Fontaines DC and Beck, who recently joined them on stage at their LA headline show.

After 2024’s Baggy$$ EP, which spawned the band’s biggest hit “Bon Bon” as well as earworm “Homie Don’t Shake”, all eyes have been firmly on the pair to find out what happens next, and Fcukers do not disappoint. A brief meeting with Kenneth Blume (FKA Kenny Beats) - fresh off producing Geese’s Getting Killed - turned into a whirlwind session at Blume’s studio, where they recorded the entirety of their new album. With 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady providing additional production on tracks across the album, and multi-Grammy-winning engineer Tom Norris (Lady Gaga, Charli xcx, The Weeknd) coming on board to mix the album. The result is 11 tracks that make you feel like you’re at the afterparty.

Fcukers will follow up their album release with their first full North American headline tour and another round of summer festivals. There's no sign of slowing down for this band continually on the rise.

Honora [Indie Exclusive Red]
$38.99  38.99
chart cover

After a nearly five-decade (and counting) career as one of his generation’s defining rock bassists, Flea releases his first full-length solo album, Honora, March 27, 2026, on Nonesuch Records. Time and space have finally allowed him to return to his first musical loves: jazz and playing the trumpet. The song “Traffic Lights,” co-written with Thom Yorke and Josh Johnson, accompanies the album announcement.

For Honora, which takes its name from a beloved family member, Flea composed and arranged the music, and also plays trumpet and bass throughout, joined by an elite crew of modern jazz visionaries: album producer and saxophonist Josh Johnson, guitarist Jeff Parker, bassist Anna Butterss, and drummer Deantoni Parks. The record features vocals from Flea, as well as friends Thom Yorke and Nick Cave. Mauro Refosco (David Byrne, Atoms for Peace) and Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes), among others, also join the band.

The album comprises six original songs—including one co-written by Flea, Johnson, and Yorke—as well as interpretations of tunes by George Clinton and Eddie Hazel, Jimmy Webb, Frank Ocean and Shea Taylor, and Ann Ronell.

Though Flea dreamed of being like his heroes Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Clifford Brown, his path went a different direction. His close friend Hillel Slovak asked him to pick up the bass and join his rock band when he was sixteen, leading Flea into a decades-long career with the hugely successful Red Hot Chili Peppers.

As Flea neared his sixtieth birthday, he realized that if he did not pick up the trumpet again, he probably never would. So he resolved to practice every day for two years—in the midst of a stadium tour with Red Hot Chili Peppers, with a wife and newborn at home. At the end of those two years, he would make an album, regardless of where his knowledge or talents ended up.

Until Honora, Flea had never been scared of making music before. He worried that the all-star band he had assembled would think he was “a non-playing motherf*cker, charlatan, rock poseur or fan.” But, he says, “It turns out they were all the most genuinely supportive people, moving me deeply and daily with their generous spirits… Sitting in a room and playing the music with them made me feel like I was on drugs. I was buzzing, tripping and floating around the studio. I love them, they truly gave of themselves. I bow all the way down.”

Against The Dying Of The Light [Indie Exclusive White]
$35.98  35.98
chart cover
Where Jose Gonzalez’s previous record Local Valley turned inward toward place, language, and personal reflection, Against the Dying of the Light widens its gaze, becoming an urgent call to preserve the light of humanity with all its flaws, at a moment when technology increasingly shapes how we think, feel, and relate to one another. Across the album, Gonzalez works within a deliberately minimal framework, pushing his familiar palette to new heights through subtle variation, restraint, and detail. Each song unfolds with its own distinct character, proving how much emotional and musical range can be achieved within self-imposed limitations. Written in English, Swedish, and Spanish, the record reflects his Swedish-Argentine roots and frames its humanist message as a global one rather than a purely personal or political statement. Jose Gonzalez is one of the most quietly influential artists of our generation. The Swedish-Argentine artist has built a singular musical world from hypnotic, minimal guitar work and his unmistakably gentle voice - a sound that has become deeply personal to millions of listeners worldwide. With billions of streams across platforms and hundreds of thousands of physical records sold, Gonzalez's songs often act as emotional landmarks. Ask almost anyone, and they can name at least one of his tracks tied to a defining moment in their lives.

Sexistential [Indie Exclusive White]
$31.99  31.99
chart cover

Sexistential is the most ecstatic record that Robyn has ever made, the sound of one of contemporary music’s most influential artists coming home. After the club music meditations of 2018’s Honey, the album features nine playful pop songs that tie back to her era-defining Body Talk trilogy, designed to feel “like a spaceship coming through the atmosphere at a really high speed and crash landing”, she says. “That’s how I felt, like I’d had all these experiences searching too far out into space, and now I’m crashing back into myself.”

Co-produced with longtime collaborator Klas Ĺhlund, and featuring Max Martin among the writing credits, Sexistential heralds one of the decade’s most celebrated comebacks. Featuring singles “Dopamine”, “Talk To Me” and “Sexistential”, it’s emphatic and punchy, defiant about emotional and biological pleasure, need and softness. The album’s title started as an in-joke before she realised it said everything she wanted to say. “Exploring my sensual life is the same feeling as when I make a good song,” she explains. “It’s such a beautiful kind of sensitive vibration that takes so much work to keep afloat. I feel like the purpose of my life is to stay horny - it doesn’t even have to be about sex, but it’s feeling sensual and attracted to things that I enjoy, and not letting anything take over that.”

The album news follows a run of public appearances - including performing on CNN’s NYE Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen and two sold-out Brooklyn Paramount shows - that have created huge anticipation for new music. Whether performing with David Byrne to celebrate SNL's fiftieth, making show-stopping live appearances with Charli xcx and Gracie Abrams, collaborating with Yung Lean and Charli or soundtracking Acne Studio's 2025 Paris show, Robyn continues her immeasurable impact on popular culture.

A woman is trapped on a cruise ship. A preacher decides to go down with his town. A man at the florist finds himself lost in the meaning of the arrangement. These and other people at personal and societal extremes are the subjects of ten timely, timeless short stories collected as meticulously crafted pop songs by The New Pornographers on their forthcoming album, The Former Site Of. The album, like Continue as a Guest, finds The New Pornographers-bandleader A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, John Collins, and Todd Fancey-expanding their already rich catalog in surprising fashion. Joined by legendary session drummer Charley Drayton (Divinyls, Keith Richards, Fiona Apple), the space contained in a New Pornographers song has never been this clearly articulated or generously textured, giving a distinct pulse to the characters whose lives spill out in Newman's tender, evocative lyrics. The Former Site Of adds new depth to the sound Newman shook loose through building and recording in a home studio, fine-tuning the band's creative process far beyond the lockdown-era necessities of remote collaboration. "Having time in my studio really opened things up," he explains. "I can get the skeleton of a song together first-just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible-before bringing it to the band and running from there." Two albums into this shift, The New Pornographers are creating universes of intricately textured sound and narrative detail, every layer keyed to reveal an unexpected new facet. As on Continue as a Guest, one of the more readily apparent layers is the way a song forms itself around a featured instrument. On The Former Site Of, it's a mandolin which, in Carl Newman's hands, lends lead single "Votive" it's sense of acceleration as it builds from the atmospheric sweep of it's synth and keyboard opening to a classic, wide-open jam. "Hands are cupped around a match / I'm just trying to keep the lights on," Newman sings on the track, the metaphor-hanging on despite the precarity of life-a thread that weaves through The Former Site Of. "Bonus Mai Tais" is, in a sense, about the flame going out, Newman writing directly of meeting a friend with advanced cancer for drinks, disarmed by their candor in the face of death. It is a brutally sad song, the anguish of the moment hanging in Newman's voice, and one of the band's most beautiful, with Neko Case's and Kathryn Calder's harmonies acting as the scene's ethereal mirror. The Former Site Of places many of it's subjects on the edge of oblivion-their time growing short, their situation doomed-but hanging on. This is also true when The New Pornographers turn their focus inward as they do on "Pure Sticker Shock," Newman's lyrics grappling with self-worth. That they can identify themselves among such a disparate cast-even the Cassini-Huygens satellite of "Spooky Action"-ties the album together before the final repeated lyric of it's title track, the way into the heart of each of these songs warmly lit and inviting. Far from being the expected next chapter from The New Pornographers, The Former Site Of is an argument against expectation by a band that continues to evolve rather than rest on their laurels. Even in it's darkest or most self-deprecating moments, there is an effervescence to the music here that is irresistible, an affirmation that the struggle of it's characters and the listener, like a photograph of a distant planet, is worth it.

Sub Pop and Wolf Parade present a new, pink-vinyl pressing of their landmark album Apologies to the Queen Mary. This edition brings the long out-of-print album back to it's original, single-LP format hot on the heels of the 2025 TV show Heated Rivalry, which introduced the album's single "I'll Believe in Anything" to a vast new audience, making the song a bona fide viral hit.Wolf Parade was founded in 2003 in Montreal, Quebec. After a pair of self-titled EPs, the band - Hadji Bakara (electronic manipulations), Dan Boeckner (guitar, vocals), Spencer Krug (keyboards, vocals), Arlen Thompson (drums) - released Apologies to the Queen Mary to widespread acclaim in September, 2005. The album was recorded by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock and engineer Chris Chandler at Audible Alchemy in Portland, Oregon.Apologies to the Queen Mary barrels headfirst and breathlessly through songs written during Wolf Parade's early years together as a band. The album's catchy, energetic urgency immediately established them as one of the defining forces of 2000s indie-rock. It earned a 2006 nomination for Canada's esteemed Polaris Music Prize; The Guardian raved, "magnificent, all told"; Pitchfork gave it a 9.2 rating, saying, "Wolf Parade's true talent is transforming the everyday into the unprecedented," and later joined the chorus of critics who placed it among the best albums of the 2000s. Garnering a coveted Best New Artist Grammy nomination and numerous other accolades, the album stands as a generational classic. Barnett followed her debut with 2017’s Lotta Sea Lice, an acclaimed collaborative record with Kurt Vile, and eschewed the vignettes of her early records on 2018’s Tell Me How You Really Feel, her humid, political sophomore record. In 2021, she released Things Take Time, Take Time, a remarkable artistic step forward. On March 27th, 2026 Courtney will release her 4th studio album, Creature of Habit.

Ambiguous Desire is Parks at her most confident and experimental, supplanting live band sessions for modular synths, Ableton plugins and samplers that channel the frenetic, vibrant spaces she was immersed in, all while spotlighting the acclaimed poetry and lyricism she’s beloved for. Reflecting on the making of the record, Parks shares, "I danced more than ever as I made this record, I made more friends than ever too, found myself in the weird underbelly of New York juke nights, unleashed, laughed and laughed and laughed. This record has desire at its centre. Desire is a life force, it’s a wanting, a yearning, a momentum - we are all alive because there is something or someone we want - desire is an engine. But it is also mysterious, tangled, random, enlightening and HUMAN." Parks crafted the album with producer Baird (Brockhampton, Kevin Abstract). Their process unfolded between NYC’s vibrant, community-rooted nightlife and long, introspective days spent in Baird’s downtown loft. The result is Parks’ most vulnerable, self-affirming, and euphoric work to date.

Book of Paul [Opaque Canary Yellow]
$26.98  26.98
chart cover

Whether he knows it or not, every man lives by a code. And for country provocateur Paul Cauthen, that code is simple. Always bet on yourself. A singer-songwriter with a well-documented distaste for playing by anyone else’s rules, the East Texas native spent two decades clawing his way through the country underground, embodying the independent spirit with a monolithic Big Velvet vocal. Fusing classic-country grit, gospel power, and a rhinestoned rock edge, four previous albums proclaimed his singular style with a booming baritone and near-biblical swagger. Taught to sing by his grandfather in a Church of Christ, Cauthen hit the scene with the duo Sons of Fathers in 2009, before My Gospel, Room 41, Country Coming Down, and Black on Black unveiled a vulnerable, fire-and-brimstone songwriter with brazen Texas attitude – craving deliverance, yet possessed by a “bird dog” instinct for theatrical rapture. Cauthen has toured the world, collaborating with Margo Price, Orville Peck, Cody Jinks, and Lana Del Rey. And with favorites like “Cocaine Country Dancing,” “Fuck You Money,” and his GOLD-certified collab with Shaboozey on “Last Of My Kind,” he counts 416 million global streams. Cauthen’s fifth album, Book of Paul, takes him further down his path of utterly authentic country music; fearless, proud, and with two middle fingers in the air. Co-writing 12 of 13 tracks, the troubadour confesses to his wild side and wrestles with the sin. He spares no detail – and makes no compromise.

VOLUMES: ONE "SELECTIONS FROM MUSIC CONCERTS 2019-2023 BON IVER 6 PIECE BAND"
$25.99  25.99
chart cover
VOLUMES: ONE, the first non-studio release from Bon Iver, captures 10 distinctive live performances, recorded between 2019 and 2023, showcasing Justin Vernon and his band at their most whole. There’s a warmth and exuberance across the album, as well as the sort of muscular sound you can really only get at a live show. For the uninitiated and die-hards alike, these recordings could well be the defining versions of the tracks, no doubt made possible through the essential live engineering of Xandy Whitesel and performances from bandmates Jenn Wasner, Sean Carey, Michael Lewis, Matthew McCaughan, and Andrew Fitzpatrick. Vernon began working on VOLUMES: ONE in 2020, and he spent a considerable amount of time combing through concerts to pull out the right songs to define Bon Iver. “This is what we became,” Vernon comments. “This is really us at our best. This is it.” VOLUMES: ONE, as a result, is something greater than a compilation or live album. It’s entirely new but still familiar, offering a prismatic look at an old friend, seeing them for who they were and who they are, all the goodness of which they’re capable but maybe too shy to show at times. With VOLUMES: ONE, Vernon begins a new Bon Iver archival series that he’s modeled after Bob Dylan’s iconic Bootleg Series and the ever-delivering Neil Young Archives. The series will present the many eras and facets of Bon Iver, spanning live shows, demos, unreleased recordings, and more. “This particular 10 songs is like, here, if you’ve never heard Bon Iver, or you have and you didn’t like it, this might be for you,” he says. –Matthew Strauss

chart cover

London-based, Wrexham-raised artist and producer Art School Girlfriend announces her third studio album Lean In, due March 13th via Fiction Records. She also shares new track ‘The Peaks’, and announces a 2026 run of headline dates.

Armed with the freedom and space to experiment, Lean In was self-produced in her own East London studio and sees Art School Girlfriend set to move from cult bedroom artist to one of the UK’s most vital artist/producers operating at the moment, tackling alternative rock, electronic pop & experimental ambient sounds in her most cohesive work to date.

Lean In arrives at a time where her audience has grown exponentially, partly due to her diverse involvement across the music scene at large – contributions to the work of Daniel Avery, Lane 8, Jasper Tygner and Ghostpoet; being chosen by Bonobo to DJ at his Outliers series at Drumsheds; touring the US with both The Japanese House and Marika Hackman; a notable DJ set for HOR; producing and engineering for up-and-coming post-rock band Pencil; the tastemaker curation of her 5-years-in-the-running monthly radio show on Foundation FM.

Self-producing, writing and recording Lean In, Mackey invites the listener to quite literally lean into the world she has built around her. With every detail intentional, this new record is less of a honing of her trademark sound of emotional blend of electronic sounds and shoegaze - and more of an expansion of it. At the top of next year, she will perform these new tracks for the first time on a UK headline tour.

Sunn O))) [Colored Vinyl]

For nearly 30 years, SUNN O))) - Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson - have pushed the boundaries of heavy music, straddling the worlds of the avant-garde and rock to forge a style instantly recognisable as their own. Now, SUNN O))) return with their first album of new material since 2019's acclaimed Pyroclasts. Their tenth album - their debut for Sub Pop - demonstrates the duo's mastery of time and space, light and dark, and their willingness to evolve their unmistakable sound into bold new forms. The eponymously titled SUNN O))) was tracked at Bear Creek Studios, Woodinville, Washington with Brad Wood (HuM, Tar, Sunny Day Real Estate, Liz Phair). This location proved crucial to the recording process. "The vast tracking room had big windows looking out on trees," says O'Malley. "We could go hiking and be out in the woods, spend time outdoors. That became a big part of it." SUNN O))) have long welcomed collaborators into their self-contained world: past work has featured, Attila Csihar (Mayhem), composer Hildur GudnadĂłttir, multi-instrumentalist Steve Moore, polymath Mark Deutrom, Silkworm's Tim Midyett and legendary singer-songwriter Scott Walker. But on this album O'Malley and Anderson found fresh possibilities in the primal territory of the duo format, performing all the instrumentation themselves. "What's been happening with our performances over the last couple years with the two of us and no other collaborators has been really fresh and exciting," says Anderson. The compositions on SUNN O))) are expansive and panoramic yet finely detailed, reflecting the arboreal setting in which they were recorded. Amidst howling feedback and glacial crunch, one finds surprisingly delicate moments: a field recording of water trickles beneath, piano interludes lend a hushed, solemn feel. All while the duo attains fresh heights of telepathic intensity as they shape music that breathes the bracing, earthy air of the Pacific Northwest.Framing the album visually are two paintings by the late American artist Mark Rothko. Liner notes are by award-winning British writer Robert Macfarlane, famed for his works concerning landscape and the relationship between humanity and nature. Through the work of the band, Macfarlane, and Rothko, sound, word and visual combine into a fully immersive experience that is undeniably, completely SUNN O))).

Indigo Park [Indie Exclusive Frosted Blue]
$23.99  23.99
chart cover
Bruce Hornsby’s newest album, Indigo Park, is a concept album of sorts, an extended multi-dimensional inquiry into the nature of aging and memory, often with a lightness of tone – the ways certain scenes linger placidly while others balloon into imagined catastrophe, the ways we remember and the ways we forget. Throughout, Hornsby contemplates moments from his deep past, sometimes trying to “resolve” them, other times looking for clues about his present-day outlook. “It's just an old bastard looking back, while hopefully pushing forward to adventurous and new musical & lyrical areas,” Hornsby says of his new songs, with a smile of characteristic self-deprecation. “To be honest, I've found a way, a path to….grow old gracefully, with help from some newborn friends of mine.” The album is produced by Tony Berg, Will Maclellan and Bruce Hornsby with contributions from friends including Bob Weir, Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, Bonnie Raitt, Blake Mills & more. Two of the albums ten songs were co-written with the late Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter.

Goldfish [Clear]
$38.99  38.99

The highly anticipated collaborative album, GOLDFISH, sees two of contemporary hip-hop's most revered and distinct production minds, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist, finally join forces for a full-length statement. Far from a simple beat-swap, this project is a masterclass in sonic cohesion, blurring the lines between their signature sounds to forge a new, golden-hued identity. Beyond production, the duo step from behind the boards to behind the mic to trade verses throughout the project, adding a personal layer to their creative vision. GOLDFISH is a deeply immersive listen, perfectly balancing the West Coast muscle and polished, anthemic quality of Hit-Boy's work with the dusty, abstract texture and cinematic suspense that defines The Alchemist's aesthetic. The result is a sound that feels both street-tested and museum-worthy. A collaborative manifesto, showcasing the infinite possibilities when two generational talents decide to link up, creating an instant classic in the canon of producer/MC albums.1xLP, Gatefold Jacket, Printed Inner Sleeves, Pressed On Clear Vinyl

Still Bill [180 Gram Green]
$42.99  42.99
chart cover
Bill Withers was a modest, gentle, and yet towering musical figure responsible for some of the most important, universally known soul hits ever written. It's no wonder that "Just the Two of Us" and "Ain't No Sunshine" won him two Grammy awards and undoubtedly played a huge role in getting him inducted into both the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Still Bill is Withers' third studio album and continues to showcase his remarkable versatility, touching upon smooth Philly soul, funk, blues and 70s folk slash singer/songwriter. Upon release the record was both a commercial and critical success and is considered a landmark 1970s R&B record. It features the hit singles "Lean on Me" and "Use Me", as well as "Who Is He (And What Is He to You)?" appearing on the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown. Unsurprisingly, next to Just As I Am, this record also made it into Rolling Stone's list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, coming in at #333. This edition includes booklet featuring a reflective essay on Bill Withers written by Grammy-nominated poet, journalist and humanitarian Kevin Powell. Still Bill is available as a limited edition of 7500 individually numbered copies on translucent green coloured vinyl.

8:18 [Blue]
$39.99  39.99
chart cover
The Devil Wears Pradaas 2013 album 8:18 once again pulled off the neat trick of topping the Pop (#6), Metal (#2), and Christian (#1) charts (the title itself is a reference to the Bible verse Romans 8:18, which says that our present-day suffering pales next to the glory that is to come). Which kinda sums up TDWPas appeal: what other band can shift so seamlessly from moments of visceral madness to spells of spiritual grace? 8:18 marked the swan song for founding band members Chris Rubey and Daniel Williams, and they certainly went out in style; the addition of some hardcore punk (aoBlack & Blue, a? aoNumber Elevena?) and straight metal (aoRumorsa?) ingredients to TDWPas melodic metalcore cauldron makes for a heady brew indeed. This sea blue pressing comes inside a gatefold with beautifully austere artwork plus an insert. A real artistic statement on every level.

Hymns From the Hills [Orchard Indie Exclusive Chainmail]
$25.99  25.99
chart cover
POISON RUIN return with their highly anticipated sophomore LP, Hymns From the Hills. Building off the strengths of their existing oeuvre, the band has developed their signature approach to grim mythmaking and scythe-swinging aggression in bold new directions, offering up a new body of songs that strike one as equal parts natural, undeniably of this world, and phantasmal. The band's vision has grown substantially, pushing well past the tales of peasants and serfs that stood as allegories for contemporary alienation in their previous work: on this newest offering, Their previous stories of toil and dispossession are revealed to be but one chapter etched upon a bleaker tapestry, one populated by spirits traversing sunless deserts and wilted hillsides, demonic torture objects limning the edges of the psyche, bodies transfigured into Luciferian snakes, Sadean prisoners bound to the screaming silence of abandoned castle towers. The record is at once a forceful restatement of POISON RUIN's trademark sound and a departure from it, the crackling, cassette-dubbed darkness and crushing rhythms listeners have become accustomed to buttressed by a carefully sculpted mosaic of new textures, from flourishes of Killing Joke hacksaw primitivism and blast-beats worthy of the Relapse catalogue number to crisp analog synth lines and ambient serenades reminiscent of Scott Walker and The Durutti Column. Like a serpent moving ever outward with spiraling circularity, Hymns From the Hills expands POISON RUIN's sonic landscape in imaginative new directions while maintaining its center of gravity firmly in the band’s already established mythos. Hymns From the Hills is meticulously composed. Much like the rest of POISON RUIN's body of work, this LP was self-recorded without the use of professional studio equipment. To meet the greater sonic demands of Hymns From the Hills, however, mastermind Mac Kennedy relocated to a private practice space, retiring from his previous routine of squeezing in tracking sessions around the rare moments that the band’s shared practice space happened to be vacant. “Having added time to breathe and really get things right felt crucial this time,” he remarks. “The stress of having to work quickly and at chaotic intervals used to feel productive in a lot of ways, in that it instilled a sort of rough, energetic ethos into the recordings, but I also started to realize that those working habits were becoming an easy way to let myself off the hook from pursuing certain ideas that required a more measured, methodical approach.” To best serve the record’s grander ambitions, the band enlisted the mixing prowess of Jonah Falco (Fucked Up, Career Suicide) and the mastering of Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Trapped Under Ice, Cavalera, Integrity), who helped to elevate the record’s teeming variety of sounds to new heights of self-assured fidelity. Kennedy lent a second hand to the mixing process, splicing in grittier tape recorded segments in order to maintain a certain tonal continuity with the band’s previous work, creating a rich structure of unconventional frictions, crystalline flashes of polish ripping through abysses of hissing low end only to shatter against the whipping sting of rusted chains moments later. Lyrically, Hymns From The Hills extends both the cynicism and the defiant bravado of POISON RUIN's established fantasy aesthetics. While the record continues POISON RUIN'S tradition of employing medieval-inflected fantasy imagery, Kennedy does not intend for these figures to be read as historically accurate: “I’m not interested in the actual facts of medieval culture, and I’m not trying to draw a sort of literal comparison between peasant life and the political realities of today. Rather, I think in order to really make sense of the present you have to get outside of history altogether, in a certain way—you have to find some sort of mythic language for talking about the spiritual damage that surrounds us, a mythology that can somehow escape the limits on imagination that are imposed upon us. For me, medieval imagery and fantasy aesthetics have always felt like a powerful starting point for creating that sort of mythology. If one is forced to be in Babylon, how can you find a way to live both through it and beyond it?” With Hymns From The Hills, POISON RUIN have accomplished a feat of creative labor which few have the courage to entertain, much less the capacity to execute so effectively. They have upped the ante: they have set out to make "The Record". Hymns From The Hills ambitiously rewrites the very rules of what punk is capable of achieving, pushing POISON RUIN's sound into expansive new terrains without sacrificing an ounce of the bleak symbolism and uncompromising aggression that first established them as an urgent new voice in the world of extreme music.

Hope and Fury [180 Gram]
$27.98  27.98
chart cover
Hope and Fury is the new studio album by Grammy-winning artist Joe Jackson, written and recorded between Berlin and New York City.

The album features nine new songs performed with Jackson’s longtime band – Graham Maby (bass), Teddy Kumpel (guitar), Doug Yowell (drums) – and Peruvian percussionist Paulo Stagnaro.

Produced by Joe Jackson with Patrick Dillett, Hope and Fury marks a return to what Jackson calls his “own mainstream”: sophisticated pop songs drawing from rock, jazz, funk, and Latin influences – or, in his words, “Bicoastal LatinJazzFunkRock.”

Opening track “Welcome to Burning-By-Sea” describes a fictional seaside town inspired Jackson’s hometown Portsmouth – a sharp portrait that becomes a microcosm of an entire country. “End of the Pier” contrasts British life in 1922 with its post-pandemic reflection a century later, while “I’m Not Sorry,” “Fabulous People,” and “Do Do Do” showcase Jackson’s trademark humour, from biting sarcasm to playful mockery. Other highlights include the bittersweet “Made God Laugh” and the tender closing ballad “See You In September.”

Musically, Hope and Fury recalls the spirit of 1982’s Night and Day, 1991’s Laughter and Lust, and 2019’s Fool. Like those albums, it overflows with great tunes, clever lyrics, and groove – with Jackson’s vocals and keyboard playing as strong as ever.

Mysterious Production Of Eggs (20th Anniversary)
$149.98  149.98
chart cover
In 2005, Andrew Bird was a previously unimaginable combination of virtuoso violinist, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and whistler. With that year's album The Mysterious Production of Eggs, his second on Righteous Babe Records, Bird minted a new sound that continues to be imitated and set down classic songs that still anchor many a live performance. The recording sessions lived up to the name when he recorded and scrapped the album three times, traveling between studios in Chicago, Los Angeles and his own home studio on a farm in Northern Illinois. The mystery was solved with the aid of David Boucher, whose studio credits at the time included Paul Westerberg, Lisa Loeb, and Randy Newman. Bird played most of the instruments on Mysterious Production of Eggs, joined by a handful of special guests complimenting his already lush sonic palette. The result was a powerhouse of a record dealing with nothing less than the mysteries of childhood, creativity and modern science-epic in scope and minute in detail.

Kammerkonzert
$38.99  38.99
chart cover
Polylined inner sleeve in gatefold outer sleeve. Tom Jenkinson, aka Squarepusher, presents Kammerkonzert, a riot of onyx-hard, hyperfast riffs, fiendish orchestral themes, and handbrake turns through varieties of progressive, ambient, electronic andexperimental music. The singular producer, experimental musician and creator of futuristic forms of fusion, has a three-decade-long back catalogue studded with a variety of jewel-like records. From the furious breakbeat acid and pulverising live bass guitar attack of Feed Me Weird Things (1996) to the literal and self-explanatory Music For Robots (2014) via the virtuosic live showcase of Solo Electric Bass 1 (2009) and the otherworldly concrète jazz of Ultravisitor (2004) few contemporary musicians have covered as much ground in as sure-footed a manner. But despite this reach, his three decade output is only typified by two things: unpredictability and rule breaking. Given that his new album on Warp, Kammerkonzert, is essentially a chamber concerto with Jenkinson himself playing all of the parts it's safe to say he has come a long way since his crystalline drum & bass debut for the label in 1996, Port Rhombus EP. Twenty-one albums in, Kammerkonzert is the start of a new era for Squarepusher as a composer.

Signal Fire [Orchard Indie Exclusive Custom Merge]
$25.98  25.98
chart cover

With their fourth full-length album Signal Fire, GENGHIS TRON awaken us from the post-apocalyptic daydreams of their previous work with a violent—and most welcome—shove. This time, the distant-future reveries we first heard on Board Up The House give way to an unsettling awareness of the present we’re actually living, as our circumstances grow too pressing to try and escape.

“Signal Fire envisions a Kojima-esque dystopia of endless proxy warfare,” says vocalist and lyricist Tony Wolski (The Armed), “where the deluge of available information has outmoded the human ability to parse it.  A world where those amoral, shameless and cunning enough can literally reshape reality at their whim through sheer insistence."

Having roared onto the scene in 2004 with a uniquely demented blend of extreme metal, synthesizer textures, and drum-machine madness, GENGHIS TRON are no strangers to making a forceful impression. But Signal Fire marks the first time bandleaders Michael Sochynsky and Hamilton Jordan –joined again by Wolski and Nick Yacyshyn (SUMAC) on drums, plus newcomer Kenny Szymanski (The Armed) on bass–has captured this level of urgency with such  visceral precision.  “This album is very much rooted in the now,” confirms Jordan.

Album opener “I Am All” sets the table with a chest-throbbing synth pulse as Wolski declares “I’m on a tear, I’m on a tear,” over swirling industrial rhythms and creeping synthlines. “Nothing Blooms in the Hollow” grafts desert-rock swagger onto interlocking layers of dizzying riffs and chants before Wolski steers the band into full-on sonic burnout, like a spaceship careening into the sun. “Born Prey” navigates deftly through Genghis Tron’s classic sonic touchpoints: furious blastbeats, electronic breaks, haunting vocal earworms, and a towering synth-pop crescendo. Meditative interludes like “Like Fotocrom” and “Without Form” deliver shimmering, ominous beauty. And “New Gods” invokes Rabies-era Skinny Puppy to bring the album to a bludgeoning, anthemic finale, as Wolski screams on repeat: “New gods to bleed me out / No new peace / Bleed me out / I love it.”

Twenty years into their career, having proven their ability to forge common ground between Ministry and Aphex Twin, between Brutal Truth and Boards Of Canada, between Cluster and Converge, ugly-beautiful new genre hybrids from GENGHIS TRON no longer come as a surprise.  What’s remarkable, however, is how Sochynsky and Jordan have taken a project that started in 2004 as a dorm-room genre-pastiche experiment —”a chaotic, wild amalgamation of all our favorite stuff, literally slammed together,” says Jordan—and refined their songwriting craft to deliver a sound that is unmistakably their own.
