Mortiis stepped up to the microphone as a lead vocalist for the first time, and the album expanded to encompass more live musicians, ushering in a metamorphosis in his sound. Closer to synthpop in parts, the album clutched more tightly onto its industrial rock sensibilities and became significantly more refined and propulsive as a result. Marvin Gaye always dreamed of being a smooth crooner, "sitting on a stool, possibly behind a piano," delivering velvety songs like Nat King Cole. But Motown had other plans. Pushed between raw R&B and polished pop, Gaye fought to find his own voice, eventually rising to become one of the greatest soul singers in history. Motown Records released the first Marvin Gaye record in 1961 "(I'm Afraid) The Masquerade Is Over", a single intended for (radio) promotion from the singer's debut album. This was followed up by the officially released "Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide" a week later. Gaye scored his first real hit with "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" in 1962, which he had co-written himself, joking about his alleged stubbornness. He found his own unique style with the single released at the end of the year: "Hitch Hike". The foundations were now laid for an enormous series of chart successes: "Pride And Joy", "Can I Get A Witness", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "Ain't That Peculiar" are all Motown classics from 1963-1965 which are still being regularly played today after all these years. The duets he recorded with Kim Weston ("It Takes Two"), especially Tammi Terrell and Diana Ross were certainly at least as good. He scored his biggest ever hit with "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" in 1968. "What's Going On" from the same titled album became a number 1 hit in the USA and the album was received as a masterpiece and is regarded as one of the most important records in pop history. In 1973, the artistically and commercially very successful, "Let's Get It On" album was mainly a musical ode to Marvin's love for his new muse Janis Hunter. His journey continued after a turbulent relationship, addiction and a dramatic creative rebirth in Belgium, where he crafte the global hit "Sexual Healing" in 1982. Marvin Gaye left behind timeless hits, groundbreaking albums, and a legacy that shaped the sound of modern soul. His story, from ambition to artistry, from struggle to brilliance, remains as powerful as the music he created. Entre dos aguas, first issued in France in 1975, was a compilation LP that presented Paco de Lucía's greatest hits up to that point, obviously including the title tune, an iconic rumba that brought the flamenco guitarist's name to a wider audience. The album includes a variety of musical compositions, some of which are rooted in the flamenco tradition, while others are in line with the style popularly known as "Nuevo Flamenco," which was emerging at the end of the 1960s.

Allison and Katie Crutchfield (aka Waxahatchee) have formed a new band called Snocaps. Their 13-track debut album, released digitally as a surprise, will be made available on April 17, 2026 in vinyl & CD formats. An indie-rock record that recalls Allisons band Swearin and Katies early records as Waxahatchee, Snocaps was born out of the twin sisters desire to work on music together as they had in their teens and twenties. The first LP released on Ray Charles' Tangerine Records imprint in 1963, Jimmy Scott's Falling in Love is Wonderful exists as one of the most mythic albums in vocal jazz. Due to contract disputes with his former label, Scott's Tangerine debut was shelved shortly after it was released - much like it's Atlantic Records follow-up, The Source - and went un-reissued for decades. Ultimately, Scott, a favorite of his contemporaries like Ella Fitzgerald, never became the star he should have been, but this album remains his masterpiece: A loving, tender collection filled with Scott's masterful work around a ballad.
When you name your band Prince Daddy & The Hyena, you sort of accept that chaos isnt a chapter in your story its the entire ethos.
Since forming out of Albany, NYs DIY scene, Prince Daddy & The Hyena have built a career out of reaching their breaking point and continuing forward anyway. Their first LP, produced by Joe Reinhart, captured a very young band figuring things out in real time; their massive conceptual undertaking Cosmic Thrill Seekers followed and pushed their ambition (and patience) to new extremes. Not long after, a serious van accident nearly took their lives, directly informing the intensity of their self-titled record. Over the last decade, the band has lost close friends and collaborators, endured relationship struggles, and faced countless moments that would have ended most bands without question.
But those experiences never slowed Prince Daddy & The Hyena down. On their upcoming fourth album, Hotwire Trip Switch, they recalibrate and reconnect with their roots while sounding more focused and self-aware than ever. Reuniting with Joe Reinhart for the first time in nearly a decade, the album pulls from the punchy lineage of Green Day, the hook-driven quirk of Weezer, the snarky urgency of Joyce Manor and Jeff Rosenstock all through the distinctly bratty lens of songwriter and vocalist Kory Gregory. Hes backed by an airtight band including guitarist Cameron Handford, drummer and vocalist Daniel Gorham, and bassist Jordan Chmielowski. The albums title comes from a lyric on the track Crash Taylor, and captures the chaotic, unstable, and sometimes unsafe energy that Prince Daddy & The Hyena thrive in. Ultimately, Hotwire Trip Switch is an album about surviving on borrowed time and borrowed electricity, pretending like somehow, thats a sustainable approach to life.
Despite being known for crafting full-length experiences and hiding easter eggs between tracks, Hotwire Trip Switch was written as Prince Daddys first-ever singles record. Kory purposefully went into the writing process with a mission to actualize entire visions between the beginning and ending of individual songs, rather than relying on the context to click only during a full album listen. Without the added pressure to connect the dots, the result is some of the bands catchiest and most instant material to

Across the albums 12 tracks, Hotwire Trip Switch shows off drastically different sides of Prince Daddy & The Hyena where exaggerating and experimenting are simply tools for sharpening and zeroing in on each songs vision. In the end, Hotwire Trip Switch doesnt attempt to escape the chaos that seems to follow Prince Daddy & The Hyena like a shadow. When the idea of recording a 4th album came up (for the second time), American Football knew things were going to get darker. After touring a year's worth of sold-out 25th Anniversary shows around the world and releasing a covers album (featuring Iron & Wine, Ethel Cain, Blondshell & more), the quartet of Mike & Nate Kinsella, Steve Lamos, and Steve Holmes, linked up with producer / engineer Sonny Diperri (My Bloody Valentine, M83, Kurt Vile) to record what would become their most substantial record to date. Blending atmospheric textures with emotive, post-rock style catharsis, LP4 is unlike anything American Football have recorded thus far, yet it fits right in with their evolving and beautiful catalog. Recorded during a 10-day retreat at Panoramic House in Stinson Beach, CA, LP4 finds the band intentionally walking into the abyss - themes of divorce, upheaval, and uncertainty are at the forefront, yet the band sounds more engaged and legitimized than ever before. Despite its title, Ratboys new album Singin to an Empty Chair is not defined by whats missing. Rather, its the beginning of an important dialogue with a close loved one, vocalist Julia Steiner finds herself estranged from. The music on the bands sixth studio album its first for New West Records fills the space that person left behind with 11 songs showcasing Ratboys at the peak of their powers twangy, effervescent, as confident as theyve ever been, and perhaps more emotionally interrogative than ever before. The four-piece Chicago band followed up 2023s highly acclaimed The Window by reconvening with co-producer Chris Walla to begin tracking at a rural Wisconsin cabin before taking the songs to Steve Albinis famed Electrical Audio studios in Chicago and later to Rosebud Studio in Evanston, Illinois. The results veer from bubbly power-pop on Anywhere to irresistible post-country on Penny in the Lake, along with heart-piercing ballads like Just Want You to Know the Truth and an exhilarating detour into the extraterrestrial on Light Night Mountains All That, which Steiner dubs the bands mammoth wormhole jam. I would normally be very nervous about playing some of this stuff for the first time, however my mind was very preoccupied with the running of our very first WOMAD festival and the potential financial disaster that it was heading towards.
Because WOMAD was unique in its focus on music and art from around the world, and mixing it with up with rock and jazz, no-one knew how many people might turn up and we had seriously overestimated our appeal. But those that had decided to check out WOMAD and its weird and wonderful lineup were open-minded, bold and curious - a great audience.
It was a landmark and edgy gig for me both personally and musically and brings back lots of memories.”
Across the three days ‘an evening concert series’ took place in the Showering Pavilion on the festival site. On the Friday night that concert featured Tian Jin (a song and dance troupe from China), Simple Minds and, with a ‘special festival set of non-album material’, Peter Gabriel.
Live at WOMAD 1982 is a recording of that Friday night concert. The non-album material in question are seven of the eight songs that would make up the album Peter Gabriel 4. An album that wouldn’t be released for a further two months.
On-stage, Peter is joined by David Rhodes (guitar), John Giblin (bass), Larry Fast (synthesisers). Jerry Marotta (drums), Peter Hammill (guitar, vocals) and “the wonderful Bristol-based drum and dance group,” Ekomé (drums, percussion).
“We wanted to show that wherever you were born, whatever colour or language, whatever religious or sexual persuasion, powerful passionate and joyful work would have a warm welcome in WOMAD.
At the beginning, most music industry professionals told us that we had no chance of making this dream work, we had all the wonderful naïve misguided optimism of the young, and were convinced that we would prove all the cynics wrong. However, at the end of the first festival, it was clear we had an artistic success, but not a financial one… but that’s for another story.”
