More Info:

The first original material from Rush in five years, Snakes&Arrows comes out big and bold, especially first single"Far Cry."Full of thick instrumentation and virtuoso playing, Rush haven't lost the qualities that make them one of the most inventive and exciting rock groups in music.

Reviews:

Back when Metallica were still cool, their Garage Days Re-Revisited EP paid tribute to the hardcore and British metal bands that had inspired them early on. They followed it up with 'And Justice for All, an album full of convoluted, hyper-technical nine-minute songs. Likewise, Rush looked back to tunes by the Who, the Yardbirds and others on the 2004 EP Feedback. Now Snakes & Arrows, album number 18, looks to be Rush's most unashamedly progressive album in years. Unlike ...AJFA, it's got Foo Fighters producer Nick Raskulinecz to help cut the tech-outs with big radio choruses. Plus there's bass on it! In fact, lead single "Far Cry" is driven by a bass-heavy, subtly tricky verse that could have come from one of today's prog/instru-metal bands or even a post-hardcore band like Quicksand, while the chorus is pure pop. Snakes & Arrows also features three instrumentals (a first for a Rush album), putting them even more in line with the young bands that owe their existence to "YYZ," and that's probably smarter than anything Metallica have done post-Justice.
