Tracyanne & Danny is a new collaborative project between singer-songwriters Tracyanne Campbell (Camera Obscura) and Danny Coughlan (Crybaby). Tracyanne hails from Glasgow, Scotland. London-born Danny is based in Bristol, England. Their paths first crossed in 2013 when introduced by mutual music industry pals. Tracyanne dug Danny’s Crybaby album (released on Helium Records) and invited him to open some Camera Obscura shows in the UK. Mutual artistic respect led to the swapping of song ideas, but tentative plans to work together were set aside while Camera Obscura wrote, recorded, released, and promoted their fifth album Desire Lines. Following the death of Camera Obscura’s Carey Lander, all band activity stopped. Time passed. Tracyanne and Danny revisited the idea of collaborating. A pool of songs were honed and crafted. On the suggestion of their manager (and Teenage Fanclub drummer) Francis Macdonald, they recorded at Clashnarrow, a studio in Helmsdale in the highlands of Scotland owned by the esteemed Edwyn Collins.
Produced by Chris Bond (Ben Howard, Tom Speight) and mixed by Tim Palmer (Pearl Jam, David Bowie, U2), Xavier Rudd's forthcoming album Storm Boy - his ninth studio album, and first solo album in six years - showcases his incomparable songwriting craftsmanship and is an impressive addition to his ever-growing legacy.
It would be nearly impossible to mistake anyone else for Jonathan Davis. A true original, the Bakersfield, CA singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist indelibly impacts millions as frontman for alt-metal/rock game-changers KoRn—whose accolades encompass two GRAMMY® Award wins, worldwide sales of 40 million-plus, and countless sold out shows in nearly every corner of the globe. Throughout over 20 years in music, his presence coursed through the film scores, contributions to popular video game franchises, and official remixes for the likes of Steve Aoki and more. Along the way, he lent his voice to tracks for everyone from Linkin Park to Tech N9ne. However, 2018 sees him doing something he has yet to do: release his first solo album. Writing and recording on the road, he played guitar, keys, and anything else he could get his hands on. Moreover, the music was primarily record live. Led by the single “What It Is,” it continues a tradition by boldly treading new territory. “I’ve always got to be different,” he leaves off. “Once again, I’m doing something I haven’t heard before. This is my swan song. It’s my fucking masterpiece up to this point.”
"Nothing Compares 2 U" contains the original version of the iconic song. This previously unreleased version was recorded in 1984, six years before 1990's classic reimagining by Sinéad O'Connor and before Prince started performing the song live. The track was recorded at the Flying Cloud Drive 'Warehouse' in Eden Prairie by Prince's long-time engineer Susan Rogers, and originally composed, arranged and performed in its entirety by Prince, aside from the backing vocals by Susannah Melvoin and Paul "St. Paul" Peterson. Also featured on the original track is saxophone work by Eric Leeds.
Ten million albums sold worldwide, countless top-notch chart positions and a hit that seems as fresh as ever: when newcomers Hoobastank released their second album / smash hit The Reason in 2003, the rock world held its breath in awe. Nowadays, Hoobastank are still going strong as one of the biggest American rock acts of our time, and are set to release their most varied and thrilling effort so far: their sixth full length "Push Pull", lovingly fine-tuned by legendary producer Matt Wallace (Faith No More, Maroon 5). The feather-light hooks of ‘More Beautiful‘ will have you enamored in seconds, whilst the compelling chorus of ‘True Believer‘ pulls you in for a tight embrace. The title track is brimming with pop goodness and displays the band`s versatility, while ‘We Don`t Need The World’, with its balladesque undertones, plays Hoobastank`s iconic trump card and rounds off an album that easily is one of the strongest of this much-praised hit factory!
Produced by Grammy award-winning producer, engineer & mixer John Congleton - who has worked with everyone from St. Vincent to Modest Mouse, Amanda Palmer to Laurie Anderson and Brian Wilson to The War on Drugs - at L.A.'s famed Sunset Sound, Spring captures that eclecticism.
Joshua Redman is joined by drummer Brian Blade, bassist Scott Colley, and trumpeter Ron Miles for Still Dreaming, an album inspired by his father Dewey Redman's band Old and New Dreams. That band had an all-star lineup of Ornette Coleman collaborators: Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and Ed Blackwell. Still Dreaming features six new compositions by the new band plus one tune by Haden, one by Coleman.
Jeremy Enigk performed with legendary indie rock band Sunny Day Real Estate from 1993 to 2000. He was their singer, songwriter, and one of their guitarists. In 1996, following Sunny Day Real Estate’s first breakup (which lasted from 1995 to 1997), Enigk released his first solo album, Return of the Frog Queen. Return of the Frog Queen represents a major shift from the sound of Sunny Day Real Estate. The album features a 21-piece orchestra backing Enigk as he performs striking, dramatic, chamber-pop compositions that demonstrate the full breadth of Enigk’s talents as a singer, musician, and songwriter. The album was produced by Greg Williamson, who also produced Sunny Day Real Estate’s 1998 comeback album, How it Feels to Be Something On.
Mating Surfaces is the second full length from Portland, Oregon's Lithics. Twelve tightly wound fragments of brittle abstract twin guitar, impellent rhythm, and absurd, imagistic lyricism. "A stern danceable sound that summons cut up snapshots of Su Tissue and Mark E Smith, an imagined landscape where Captain Beefheart hits that 99 Records Too Many Creeps beat." -Layla Gibbon (Maximum Rocknroll, Skinned Teen).
One of the most-loved singers of our time has returned with a modern-day masterpiece. Jennifer Warnes is back with a brand-new album called Another Time, Another Place, on BMG. The new album reunites Warnes with her co-producer and great friend and collaborator Roscoe Beck, the long-time musical director and bass player for Leonard Cohen. It's the same partnership that made the landmark 1987 album Famous Blue Raincoat. With glorious production and performances, and of course, impeccable vocals, Another Time, Another Place features the cream of the crop of songwriters including Eddie Vedder (‘Just Breathe’), Mark Knopfler (‘Why Worry’), John Legend, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and more. Joining Warnes are brilliant musicians and friends such as Dean Parks (Steely Dan, Bob Dylan), pedal steel king Greg Liesz (k.d. lang, Eric Clapton) and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Sting). Jennifer Warnes has always been known as someone who makes beautifully crafted records with an open heart, unafraid to show emotion and love through her work. It's the perfect time for Another Time, Another Place.
Seattle all-female rock n’ roll band Thunderpussy to release debut self-titled album, 'Thunderpussy' on 5/25 via Stardog / Republic Records. Album will include previously released tracks, 'Speed Queen,' 'Velvet Noose,' 'Torpedo Love,' & latest single 'Gentle Frame.' The band has captured endorsements from Rolling Stone & Pearl Jam's Mike McCready. They recently wrapped up performances at SXSW and will support the launch of their album with a series of headlining performances throughout the US.
Known for dynamic live performances, effortless union of voices in harmony, and anthemic melodies they embody a wide-eyed energy, deliver messages of reflection and optimism, have an earnest mission for connection, and are endearing audiences across Canada and beyond.
Their new batch of songs celebrate coming of age, ambition, the decisions we make to persevere, and the resilience of the human spirit. Their new album Hold Fast, produced by Daniel Ledwell, is slated for release in 2018. Pre-orders for the album and the first single Northern Star will be released on January 26th, timed to promote a national North American tour in support of Alan Doyle (of Great Big Sea). Album release date May 25th, timed for summer festivals, with a follow up national Canadian headline release tour in fall 2018.
The follow-up to Jenny Hval's acclaimed 2016 album Blood Bitch is The Long Sleep, an adventurous new EP that sees the Norwegian multidisciplinary artist embracing an instinctive, even subconscious, approach to creating meaning. In contrast to Hval's more explicitly conceptual work, The Long Sleep foregrounds the act of composition itself, letting the melodies and structures reveal the other elements of the songs. All of the songs on the EP recycle the same compositional motives, but manipulate them into very different shapes that take them further and further out of their original, "life-like" context. Hval recorded The Long Sleep with longtime collaborator Havard Volden and producer Lasse Marhaug, along with an ace new supporting cast of talented players from the jazz world - Kyrre Laastad on percussion, Anja Lauvdal on piano, Espen Reinertsen on saxophone, and Eivind Lonning on trumpet. Hval calls them some of her favorite contemporary musicians, and their musical background helps to give the songs on The Long Sleep their intuitive, improvised feel.
Vinyl LP pressing. 2018 release. Twenty-eight years ago, pissed-off twelve-year-olds around the universe discovered a new planet, a Black Planet. Public Enemy's aggressive, Benihana beats and incendiary lyrics instilled fear among parents and teachers everywhere, even in the border town of Laredo, Texas, home of the future founders of the Latin-Funk-Soul-Breaks super group, Brownout. The band's sixth full-length album Fear of a Brown Planet is a musical manifesto inspired by Public Enemy's music and revolutionary spirit. Chuck D., the Bomb Squad, Flava Flav and the rest of the P.E. posse couldn't possibly have expected that their golden-era hip hop albums would sow the seeds for countless Public Enemy sleeper cells, one that would emerge nearly three decades later in Austin, Texas. Translating sample-based music to a live band turned out to be more of a challenge than they anticipated. Coming off numerous tours as Brown Sabbath and even a stint backing the late legend Prince, Brownout is arguably the tightest and funkiest band on the road today and they're psyched to bring this revolutionary music to the people. For a band without an overt political agenda, they collectively couldn't resist the opportunity to play this music live, especially now.
Bleeding Through is one of the most important bands to take the mixture of metal and hardcore to international prominence in the last decade. Whether touring with Ozzfest (twice) as well as Vans Warped Tour, MTV's "Headbanger's Ball: The Tour" and with Slayer, Marilyn Manson, AFI, HIM, Machine Head, Senses Fail, Parkway Drive and more. They have been featured on the cover of Revolver (twice), Metal Edge, Outburn, Under The Volcano and Chord.
• All 14 A- & B-Sides from Malo’s Warner Bros. single releases. • Remastered from original single masters. • Liner notes contain new interview with Jorge Santana. “Malo was pretty much a jam,” Jorge Santana laughs. “Just a lot of natural energy. But it had to be structured to an arrangement.” The legendary and pioneering Bay Area band, Malo found inspiration in its Latin roots while mixing it with rock, blues, funk and jazz creating a musical stew that was augmented by a horn section. At the time, horn sections were popular in rock bands like Blood, Sweat And Tears, Chicago, and Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Malo joined other California bands at the time, like War and Tower Of Power, in adding a brass section. “The new band had elements of the Latin rock sound that was thriving a few hundred miles south in Los Angeles, but Malo had something that set it apart from established groups like El Chicano. “We had Latin percussion and we had a horn section,” Santana notes. Drawn from their four long players, a series of singles were issued for radio airplay, the first of which, “Sauvecito” was to be their biggest hit and has been called “The Chicano National Anthem.” All fourteen A- and B-sides are gathered here on Latin Bugaloo: The Warner Bros. Singles for the first time, including a single that was previously reported as having been assembled but never issued. That single, including the songs, “Pana (Single Version)” backed with “Just Say Goodbye (Single Version)” was in fact released, but only in Turkey. Because the length of Malo’s album cuts could at times stretch to the near 10-minute mark, all the tracks selected for 7" release were edited for the format. Those edits appear here so Malo fans can hear the songs the way they originally heard them on the radio!
Don Airey s discography is definitely one of the most impressive for any British musician. It is hard to find a name between all those that in the last 30 years have left a mark in the history of rock that has not worked with him at some point. To name the most obvious of Don Airey s associations: Ozzy Osbourne, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Gary Moore, Brian May, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath and, obviously, Deep Purple, the band Don Airey has been a full time member of, for over ten years. Don Airey has never been a session player. Bands and artists have worked with him for his unique musical vision, for the twist he could give to songs. Albums like Rainbow s Down To Earth or Ozzy Osbourne s Bark At The Moon would not have been the same without Airey s chord progressions, solos and his skill to play for the team .It is not difficult to see Don Airey playing with Deep Purple in front of 15.000 people one day, and the next day playing the organ in the church of his beloved local village with the same
concentration and respect for the music and the audience. It is with the same spirit that Don shows no particular effort when moving from the glories of the last two Deep Purple albums (NOW What?! and Infinite , both having benefitted from his very present talent) and the work in clubs with his own band. Always with a big smile on his face as soon as the guitar roars, he is waiting to reply with his Hammond.
One Of A Kind is just that a true classic hard rock gem displaying great melodies, great riffs, great solos and a unique band unity. It has also been recorded using the spirit of a band and therefore features talented prominent band members. Carl Sentence (from the current line-up of British legends Nazareth) is a singer that all fans of rough voices like Rob Halford and Graham Bonnet would love. Laurence Cottle, who has played with Don in the Gary Moore band makes a great rhythm section together with the thunderous talent of Jon Finnegan, evidently loud on stage as much as in life. Last but definitely not least, the incredible talent of Simon McBride, who shows no fear of being compared to the many incredible guitar players Don has played with before. Simon was also part of Ian Gillan s band, together with Don - during the recent tour in East Europe. One song after the other quenches every hard rock fan s thirst, who would make a capital mistake to overlook this album. Available on 2 CD Jewel/180 Gram Vinyl and Digital.
